Get to Know - Heather Weiss

Professional School Counselors are, and have long been, a vital part of our Association. In this Get to Know segment we hear from long-time  member Heather Weiss of Shenandoah HS!

  • What is your job title?
Shenandoah High School Counselor
  • Best part of your job?
I enjoy building relationships with students, staff, and the community.  It's also gratifying helping students connect the dots from life now to their aspirations.

  •  How long have you been involved with Iowa ACAC?
I joined Iowa ACAC by participating in the RIDE about 17 years ago or so.

  • What is your favorite memory from your time with Iowa ACAC?
It's hard to pick a favorite!  Highlights would include a boat ride while searching for the University of Okoboji during the RIDE, the celebration of the 2015 School Counselor of the Year announcement, and watching admission representatives trying their hand at riding a mechanical bull at a MIDWest ACAC Conference :)

  • What has your experience been like as a site coordinator?
Our area counselors joined forces and host this joint evening & morning fair for 10 school districts.  As our fair has evolved, we've incorporated ICAN presentations and an Iowa ACAC member meet-up. I'm thankful to have this opportunity in our backyard for our SW Iowa students.
And we're thankful to have Shenandoah High School and Heather Weiss as members of our Association! Thank you, Heather, for all you do!
